SV Center for the Arts Presents "Superheroes & Secret Identities"

Superheroes & Secret Identities

Update: Courtney Gilbert and Britt Udesen of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts took us on a tour of the "Superheroes & Secret Identities" exhibit at the Ketchum and Hailey campuses. Check out the work of Newport, Pinzón and Cooper.

While the exhibit has been underway for about a week now, we want to shine as much light as possible on the Sun Valley Center for the Arts' "Superheroes and Secret Identities" exhibit because...we're fans. Fans of superheroes, we mean. Although, we're certainly fans of the great work of the SVCA as well. The exhibit is a multidisciplinary project featuring the work of three artists (Mark Newport, Dulce Pinzón, Robbie Cooper) and tackles America's fascination with all things caped crusader and the hidden identities our favorite masked vigilantes protect.

Music to Take You from Winter to Spring

Perla Batalla on MNN

Once again, the Sun Valley Center for the Arts is ensuring that residents and visitors of the Wood River Valley will be hearing music.

The Center, which is responsible for a number of events throughout the year including art exhibitions, lectures, and, of course, the Wine Auction & Dinner, will once again be offering a winter to spring Performing Arts Series. The 2008-2009 series kicked off yesterday with an uplifting performance by the African Children’s Choir, who have performed with icons like Paul McCartney and for dignitaries like Queen Elizabeth and Nelson Mandela.

Sun Valley Center for the Arts will bring a unique artist or group once a month from November to May with performances at the Church of the Big Wood, Liberty Theatre or Sun Valley Opera House. A full schedule is available online, but some highlights include an encore performance by “mestiza” crooner Perla Batalia and sons of jazz legend Dave Brubeck (and accomplished jazz musicians in their own right) Dan and Chris Brubeck of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Plum was fortunate enough to have the soulful Batalia on the MorningNoon&Night Show last year. Check out the video below.

Series tickets are still available for $136 and individual performance tickets can be purchased for $20-$25 (members) or $25-$30 (non-members) online or by calling 208-726-9491
