Sun Valley is a fantastic place for your kids and the kid in you. Ski, sled, bowl, shop, eat…you and your kids can do it all. We’ve got the scoop on what you can do as a family and how you and your spouse can get some quality time without feeling like you abandoned the kids.

Get Those Kiddos on the Slopes

Little ones learn fast and they have absolutely no fear, that’s what happens when you’re close to the ground. Dollar Mountain is the best place to learn; it’s treeless, gentle and offers premium ski and snowboard schools all day long. If the kids don’t feel like strapping in, take them tubing on Dollar Mountain, or really tire them out by climbing Penny Hill on Sun Valley Road.
Or, you can drop the kids off at ski school and hit the slopes of Bald Mountain all by your lonesome. The kids will hone their skills, make friends, and drink copious amounts of hot cocoa. If you want to enjoy a little QT with your man or woman, call Sun Valley Super Sitters. Not only will they guarantee a sitter, they will also make dinner reservations. Now that’s service.

Baby It's Cold Outside: Stay Indoors

Lucky for you, Sun Valley boasts on average 250 days of sunshine per year. If it rains, however, or the kids are simply tired of the snow, there is still plenty to keep them busy. Take the whole fam bowling at Sun Valley Lodge, or visit local bookstore, Iconoclast, which has more books than you can count, much less read as well as a fabulous kids’ corner.
Teach the little ones and yourselves some Idaho history at the Ore Wagon Museum. There you can see the high, narrow Lewis Ore Wagons and learn about Sun Valley’s mining history, or get the kids psyched for the slopes by visiting the Ketchum Heritage & Ski Museum.

Spend Time as One Big Happy Family

Sun Valley Village hosts an assortment of restaurants and almost all of them have kid-friendly menus. If you want old-school diner chow, hit up Shorty’s in Hailey for milkshakes, burgers, fries, and even delicious salads for the carb-conscious. If you’re craving good Eggplant Parm, but all your kid will eat is white food, dine at Rico’s. The little ones can order just about anything: mac and cheese or plain pasta with butter, and the desserts are sure to be a hit.
Given that Sun Valley is such a family vacation type of place, there really are not any hotels that do not cater to kids. Sun Valley Resort houses indoor and outdoor skating rinks, ski school, childcare, a swimming pool, and many child-friendly restaurants like Bald Mountain Pizza. You can also rent a condo or a house from Resort Quest and make everyone feel like they’re staying in a home away from home.

With so many exciting and kid-friendly activities happening throughout town, it's safe to say that Sun Valley is not only a child's playground, but also a parent's dream. For more activities and restaurants visit our Lodging and Dining guides, and our events calendar.
