Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

Hailey residents, Amanda and Janice Moulton, wanted to raise awareness about global warming. So, they decided to “Bake a Better World.”

Each week this mother and daughter team bakes a whole assortment of tasty desserts to sell at the Hailey Artists’ and Farmers’ Market. Each cookie or brownie comes in a paper sleeve with a helpful hint for saving energy, resources, and ultimately the planet -- simple things like biking to work or air-drying your dishes rather than using the “dry” function on your dishwasher.

Their inspiration: Hailey Mayor Susan McBryant, who recently signed the Kyoto Protocol despite the United States’ failure to do so. The Moultons decided it was time to be more pro-active by showing people the countless other ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

So far their environmental venture has been a success. In the first week, they sold out completely. They plan to donate all proceeds to the Environmental Resource Center.
