Please refrain from getting in touch with the district regarding the spot fires you are seeing from the trails. The district is still flying the fire, inserting crews to rehab heli-bases and dozer lines, so they are seeing what we are all seeing. They are comfortable with the way these localized fires are burning and will continue to monitor them.

Safety: Timbered areas that have burned will have fire weakened trees in them. They can come down at any time - with a slight breeze, during a storm, or when its perfectly calm. They are completely unpredictable. Burned hillsides can be dangerous - they often contain loosened rocks and logs which can roll down toward passersby.

Some rain is predicted for the weekend. Keep an eye on the conditions and please use good judgement. It is important that we stay off of the trails when they are wet.

Feel free to report the conditions you find by posting a comment here or mailing BWBT at goodtrails@gmail.com.

For more information about how to volunteer or simply what trails are open for you to get out and hike, check out the Big Wood Backcountry Trail website or contact Chris Leman by calling 208-726-2948.
