Verbatim

Frozen River

Welcome back to Verbatim. This week we hear from Amaya Ingram. The staff of the Wood River Land Trust picked her poem, Big Wood River, as their favorite for this year’s Heart of the Valley Contest. Ingram is a senior at the Community School. She plans on attending college next year and plans to study abroad in Spain. In the future she hopes to pursue a career in documentary film making and writing. Perhaps we’ll see her book on the shelves of Iconoclast on day.

Big Wood River

Steadily it continues-
    Twisting, swirling
        On  a mission-
    A set course.
Steadily it continues-
A fish jumps
    A slippery,multi-colored rainbow
Steadily it continues-
            The water’s body glittering
    Tantalizing the passerby
        Man and beast
Steadily it continues-
Crisp coolness
    Inviting for adolescent
 summer play
    A splash
Steadily it continues-
    A hikers boot, a biker’s wheel,
         Hastily parts it’s waters, yet
Steadily it continues-
         The valley’s life force,
            Man made snow
        Golf course landscapes
    Running fields of alfalfa,
dotted with cattle
Steadily it continues-
    Our economic prosperity
    Unsuspecting of it importance
Steadily it continues-
    Naturally
        Purely
            Freely
Steadily it continues.
