Sun Valley

Weekend Preview 04.03.08

Preview Photo April

Technically, there is nothing you have to do this weekend, but make it to the mountain. Thanks to an amazing snowfall and fabulous conditions, Sun Valley Company has decided to extend ski season until April 20. So forget biking and running or even staying indoors and get on the slopes, Sun Valley! Or, we guess you could mix it up a little.

Thursday

Start the weekend right with a talk by Dr. Robert Duerr. Duerr, a cardiologist, will speak on ways to keep your heart healthy and happy at St. Luke’s from 5:30-7pm. Or, get educated with your neighbors at the Wood River YMCA. Listen to a live broadcast from NYC’s 92nd Street Y featuring Ellen Goodman and Lynn Sheer. The talk begins at 5:30pm and costs $10 for members, $15 for non-members.

Friday

South Valley Merchant’s Alliance has changed its First Thursdays to First Fridays starting April 4. This Friday stop by Bungalow for a candle and jewelry trunk show. Visit Green Antelope Gallery in Bellevue for an artists’ reception featuring work by Helen Bonner and Zoey Pierce. Then join the Blaine County Recreation District Dance Party at the Community Campus. Bring your ipod so you can plug it in, share your music and boogie down!

Saturday

Get dressed Hawaiian style and get pumped for Sun Valley Tele’s 28th annual Hawaiian Nationals. There will be four events on Bald Mountain: the Dual GS, the Tandem Telemark Challenge, the Telemark Parade and the Rail Jam. The Tandem Telemark Challenge involves teams of two competing on one pair of telemark skis! With such crazy races and after party in Warm Springs, it’s an event you do not want to miss.

Sunday

Despite an extended ski season, winter is coming to an end, and the first to go is Galena Lodge. Head north for Galena’s closing day celebration, which includes the one-and-only Ride, Stride and Glide contest. Put together a team or go solo in this mini-triathlon where you have to bike, run and Nordic ski. Then celebrate a great winter with food, drinks, merchandise specials and old friends.
